Did you know? Babies are born with all 20 primary teeth underneath the gumline... and these teeth start to surface anywhere on average from 3 to 12 months. Some babies will suffer from all the teething symptons, and others will teeth and you will be none the wiser (I wish that was the case for mine). All teeth should be through by age 3.
So if your baby is teething, how can you tell? We have listed some of the signs and symptoms to keep a look out for:
Want to attempt making your own teething biscuits? We have a tried and tested recipe that babies & kids alike will love:
Homemade Baby Teething Biscuits
Ok, I had to share these with you guys...any of you that have children, they don't even have to be of the teething age...you have to make these! Why, you ask? Well, because I said so, obviously! Ha! No, really, they aren't the best tasting cookie, rather bland I think. But both my kids love them!! Gray calls them cookies and I totally don't mind him asking for these because they have either fruit or veggies in and NO SUGAR!
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup dry infant rice cereal
- 1 ripe medium mashed banana (1/3 cup-I have also substituted pureed carrots and sweet potato)
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons water
- Preheat oven to 425ºF / 220ºC. In a bowl, mix together flour, cereal and cinnamon.
- Add in oil, banana and water. Mix until dough comes together to form a firm, non-sticky dough. Add water or flour (1 tablespoon at a time) if necessary.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out about 1/2 inch thick and cut into shapes or bars.
- Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes, or until slightly brown. Allow to cool completely and store in an airtight container. Enjoy!
Makes about a dozen, depending on how big of shapes you use.

Does your child bite their fingers, chew on their clothes, or other items? Our Chew buddy pendants are perfect for children who need to be orally soothed...
Did you know the mouth is one of the most sensory parts of the body? This also makes it the most effective way to regulate our behaviour, and the behaviour of our children with sensory processing issues. Sensory tools such as chewable necklaces are effective for children who are orally defensive and fussy eaters.
For children with special needs, particularly those with ASD, chewing is a common behaviour. Kids with sensory issues may feel compelled to chew on items such as clothes, paper, toys, or other objects. Some children have Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) or difficulty with processing and understanding sensory information. Some kids feel under stimulated while others feel overstimulated. Children with autism often chew because the sensation chewing provides is enjoyable.
Parents may worry about chewing because it can cause problems including tooth issues and damaged clothing and other belongings. However, the solution is often as simple as giving your child appropriate items to chew. Products such as gum and mints can deliver too much sugar and contribute to tooth decay. Instead, look for sensory toys or chewable necklaces designed for this purpose.
Sensory Chew Necklaces are designed for chewing
Chewable toys such as pencil toppers and teething necklaces provide sensory input in a safe, satisfying way and prevent your child from chewing on inappropriate or unsafe items. These items are colourful and provide added benefits; for example, chewable pencil toppers also add weight to the pencil for enhanced hand awareness and make the pencil more comfortable to write with and hold.
Our Chew Buddy Range is specifically designed to provide relief to special needs children with sensory needs. With such a large variety of needs and the wide range of the spectrum we have put together a range of chewable aids to help little ones with their anxiety and need to chew!
As with all of our silicone products we recommend that these products be used by children over 3 years of age and with adult supervision at all times. They are not a toy and could pose a choking hazard. Children who are advanced chewers may damage our products so please inspect your Chew Buddy regularly for faults and replace or discard if it becomes damaged.
About our Chew Buddy Products:
The cord is made of soft silk/nylon rope and each necklace features safety release break-away clasp, so they are not a strangling danger; however they are still not recommended for very young children to wear.
Chew Buddy is made from is made from non toxic BPA free Silicone. Chew Buddy pendants can be washed in warm soapy water, and are dishwasher safe.
Top five tips on how to host a baby shower on a tight budget!
Baby showers are a great way for friends and family to get together and celebrate the impending arrival of a gorgeous new baby. As you know having a baby is an expensive exercise, there is the new pram, cot, bassinet, capsule or car seat or both, sometimes you need to upgrade your car, do up the nursery, nappies, bottles, wipes, burp clothes, clothes, teethers, swaddles... and the list goes on! Baby showers can really help you tick some of those needed items off the list. But baby showers in themselves can cost a small fortune, so we are going to share our tips for hosting a shower on a budget.
Tip one: Look on ebay for second hand baby shower decorations - they are generally only used once so will be in good enough condition and for a fraction of the price.
Tip two: Do your own catering and ask if anyone wants to bring a dish. People really love to contribute and cooking is an easy way to help out.
Tip three: Host the baby shower at home. This will saves lots on room hire fees, and it will be so much easier than having to cart all the catering there and back.
Tip four: Set up an event on Facebook and invite and communicate with guests via this channel, for non FB friends, just send them an email invitation. Saves paper and saves money.
Tip five: Bake your favours - make people some home baked cookies and box them up.. cheaper and more personal.
Baby showers are really for catching up with friends and family, so keep it simple and have fun!

Jack N' Jill products have been a go to for my family and I decided I would love nothing more than introducing you to these amazing natural products.
It all started with the toothpaste, finger brushes and now toothbrushes (the teething gel wasn't around when mine were teething). The quality was exceptional, the taste was very popular with the kids and i knew i was doing the right thing using natural organic products. I stuck with it, and then the thought sparked that I should share these products with you all! So here is a little information about the latest products to hit our virtual shelves:
Jack N' Jill Teething Gel is especially useful during the emerging teeth stage, providing temporary relief of teething symptons including restlessness, irritability and sore gums.
The Jack N' Jill silicone finger brush will assist in applying the gel and also providing relief to sore gums.
Once the tooth has emerged you can continue to use the brushes along with the Jack N' Jill natural toothpaste. This toothpaste has my kids brushing their teeth numerous times a day because they just love the flavour.
Also when baby brushes their teeth for the first year or so they tend to swallow the toothpaste, thus a natural alternative is a great option.
Not only are you choosing a great product for your baby's first dental hygiene experience you are supporting Aussie businesses. Jack N' Jill and Bubba Chew are both family owned, offering quality, tried and tested products. Both businesses understand their obligation to the environment therefore packaging where possible is minimal, recyclable, reusable and BPA Free.
Yours in teething!

Are you a fan of essential oils?
We have started using them and loving how they work (and smell)... so far the easy air vapor stick and our new petal diffuser and easy air oil have been in constant use in our house, and have helped combat our head colds. For us, I covered the children’s chest in the vapor stick, which really helped clear their noses and (I believe) assisted in a good nights sleep. We also diffused easy air oil throughout the house, and I also dropped 2 drops of easy air oil in the shower as a quick way to diffuse the easy air with the steam!
Another oil we have added to the site is clove oil. I’ve started using this as a mouth gargle in the evenings, and mornings. According to doTERRA, clove oil is also good for teething. Check out the video here: https://goo.gl/images/yPvz6C
Please note: Clove oil should only be used for children 2+ years of age. Before application, perform a patch test by applying a small amount of diluted essential oil to a baby’s leg or arm, and wait to see if there is a reaction. If there is no reaction, it’s likely safe to apply the oil blend more generally. Essential oils should never be ingested.
What else can you do with oils?
We have also recently made play dough and scented it. We made purple and scented with lavender, orange and scented with on guard and yellow play dough scented with lemon oil. Was a fun activity for the kids and the house smelt amazing.
We also love lavender for its relaxing and sleep inducing aroma.
Another important oil in our house is tea tree oil. We spray our Miss 4’s hair each morning before pre school in an effort to keep nits away (it is diluted with water in s spray bottle).
Do you have a favourite oil? How do you use it?
If you wish to place an order for oils just click here:http://mydoterra.com/bubbachew
Note: I am not an expert in aromatherapy, the above is just how we use the oils in our home and advice we have taken from the doTERRA website.

Don't know what to get mum this Mothers Day? Click through to check out our our top gifting ideas for this Mothers Day.
Babyology now hold a baby shower for expecting mums to attend. This is a great event to learn about what to do once you get bub home. Guest speakers include Chris Minogue, Mothercraft Nurse and Antenatal Educator.
0 to 4 weeks - What should your baby be doing?
Gosh I remember the first 4 weeks so clearly... everyday was a blur, i was tired, breastfeeding was bloody hard and my baby cried a lot and didn't sleep much. It was such a shock to the system, and one that no one can prepare you for... I was coping but not without the help of my husband, my sister and my mum. A support network for new mums is vital. Its the little things like someone to chat too, help with the nappy changes, washing (and loads of it), to answer your questions, to watch bub while you shower or have a nap. Someone to help tidy the house, or grab a few groceries. All of these tasks were once easy, but all of a sudden become a huge task whereby you pack a nappy bag to last you a week on a deserted island, god forbid you forget the wipes, the nappies, the change mat, the dirty nappy bags, the formula and the extra formula... you get the jist.
Then when you finally get it all together you start to think, maybe bubs needs a routine? I wonder what i should be doing?
I am sure you have read somewhere about the feed, sleep, play cycle. Basically your baby will wake up, feed, play (lay on a play mat/swing chair/pram etc), then settle back to sleep. This is obviously in the perfect world, but its a nice guide to at least know what you should be working towards.
Did you know? Babies need at least 15 to 17 hours sleep per day in these early weeks
For us, we spent nearly 1 hour feeding, first we would try to breastfeed, then we would top up with formula.
Next up was a nappy change and some mat time. My baby preferred to be held, so I jumped online and bought a baby bjorn so that i could still do household chores and carry her around with me. To settle bub for her sleep i would nappy change again, wrap her up tight in a swaddle, then rock in the bassinet.
Night time routine was a little different as we added in a bath, then feed, nappy change and bed. Hubby always did a dream feed so that i could get to bed and at least get a small chunk of sleep in.
These 4 weeks really do fly past, so between the exhaustion, and the coming to grips with a complete lifestyle overhaul take a few moments to enjoy your new bundle!
You asked and we responded! We had lots of requests for Amber beaded necklaces or also referred to as Amber teething necklaces, but we never found the right supplier until now. We have found a reputable brand in Australia that is distributing a lovely small range of these gorgeous necklaces.
So you ask, what is Amber beaded necklaces and how can they help during the teething months? Well Amber is fossilised tree resin, or sap. When the bark of a tree has been damaged – a tree cut down or there has been an interruption in the integrity of hard outer bark – sap leaches out. If this is left undisturbed, over time the resin solidifies to a rock like hardness. Amber bead necklaces are made from polished chips of this resin.
Amber necklaces are thought to release oils that are absorbed through babies skin.
The necklaces also contain an element called Succinic Acid which is said to deliver the beneficial properties of the amber bead necklaces. Historically, Succinic Acid was used as an anti-inflammatory agent and to alleviate various aches and pains. When ground up and pulverised, it was used in baths and immersions. Now Succinic Acid is used predominately in the food and beverage industry and as a sweetener for foods.
Amber bead necklace benefits are said to be varied, though include anti-inflammatory, soothing, calming and to work as a general restorative.
You can purchase your Amber beaded necklace and Bubba Chew Bib pack (both teething essentials) here: https://www.bubbachew.com.au/collections/frontpage/products/bubba-chew-baby-must-haves-pack?variant=5676913754146

Want to know how to get discounts on tried and tested baby products? Read here to find out more...
Muslin is a plain woven 100% Cotten fabric that is durable, soft and lightweight. For these reasons muslin is the perfect fabric to use for baby essentials such as bibs and swaddles.
Stiff, heavy fabrics are uncomfortable, especially for periods of longer wear. The Muslin bib allows the skin to breath, doesn’t get hot around the neck and is soft so doesn’t irritate the skin.
Muslin bibs have “give” and our snap closures are placed in 2 different positions allowing the bib to grow with baby and allowing use of the bib for a longer period of time.
If you have a teething, dribbling bub then our Bubba Chew Muslin bibs are a necessity.
So you need a baby shower gift and you have no idea what to buy? We are here to help! Being a team of mums here ourselves, we like to think we have a good idea as to what we found useful. Our top 10 include:
1. Love to Dream swaddles - these are honestly the best! They come in a range of colours and weights, so lightweight for those hot nights and heavier weight for the cooler months. They help in creating a routine for bubs, nappy change then zip into swaddle, meaning time for sleep. They also last for years, so perfect to hand me down, or keep for future babies.
2. Bibs - bibs are useful for teething, eating and every day wear for the dribbly baby, and you never have enough. The Bubba Chew Muslin bibs are perfect for every day wear as they are soft and light weight. The bibs help protect their clothes from becoming wet and uncomfortable when dribbling.
3. Personalised Teething Toys - These are great for babies during teething, but also make a keepsake for years to come. Our Bubba Chew Wooden Teething Toys are all handmade here in Australia by our wood artisan. To have your teether personalised just leave a note in the order.
4. Zip Onesies - Bonds zip up onesies are so handy. When bub is crying because they want to be held or fed, mums/dads/carers can become stressed, and if you are buttoning up a onesie, you will more than likely do it up wrong, leaving you a button short at the end. You dont have that problem with a zippy, you just zip it up quick!
5. Portable change mat. We recommend the Kalencom change mats, as they hold your nappies, baby wipes and nappy bags in easy to zip pockets. It is also easy to wipe clean after each change.
6. Baby Monitor - these don't need to be expensive. Ours has always been just sound, without the monitor and it has worked just fine. We can be at ease knowing we can hear sniffles, coughs and cries. Ours is the oricom brand and has been working well, non stop for 4 years.
7. Muslin Swaddles - these come in handy for everything... perfect to use as a breastfeeding cover, to swaddle new borns to sleep if you run out of love to dream swaddles, to place over prams if you are in the shops and want to keep light out, burp cloth, or as a mat for the ground if you are out and about. They fit easily into your baby bag and we never left home without one.
8. Spoutie Sippy cups - sippy cups in general are so handy, especially as bub hits 6 months and becomes more independant. The Bubba Chew Spoutie Sippy Cups fit over any cup, can be used when eating out, like when you order a kids milkshake and they bring it out in a normal cup without a lid - every parents worst nightmare, as you wait for the milkshake to be knocked over at any moment. The sippy cup lids just slip over the top of the cup providing a spill proof cup - perfect for ages 6 months to 4 to 5 years.
9. Silicone Jewellery - is stylish, and practical. It is perfect to wear when breastfeeding as it provides bubs with tactile stimulation whilst feeding, meaning as they get older and more inquisitive they will spend more time feeding and playing with the beads then stopping and looking around to see whats going on around them. The breakaway clasp also ensures that if they tug to hard the necklace wont break but will instead break open allowing you to reconnect again and again. The necklace can also be washed in warm soapy water or wiped over with a baby wipe.
10. Sinchies reusable pouches - we love Sinchies here, mainly because they are a genius idea. They are great for the environment as they are reusable and save you money as you can buy snacks in bulk and divide up into snack size portions for kids. For example we use our pouches for yoghurt - we either make our own yoghurt in the thermomix or we buy yoghurt in larger size packs and divide up into individual pouches which the kids can then feed themselves. We also use the sandwich bags for sandwiches at daycare/preschool and other snacks including pretzels, cut up fruit, bliss balls etc. Perfect for back to school ...
These are our top 10 ideas, we have plenty more ideas but this is a great start!
Teething is painful for babies, can cause them to be irritable, tired, whingey. Carers of teething babies need to look for symptoms and help their little ones overcome their teething pain.
So what are our top tips...
What Mum's REALLY want for Christmas. Our top 5 gifts for Mum. Yes, Christmas is about love and sharing good times with family and loved ones but mums are the ones who have spent the time and effort to ensure our family gets what they really want this Christmas.
Our annual family holiday this year was to the Gold Coast. We decided to stay in Australia this time as traveling with 2 young children on a plane for 10 hours + just doesn't have the same ring to it as it once did... (not that traveling on a plane for that long ever sounds great, but it is certainly 1000 times easier than doing it with toddlers/threenagers). So a 45 minute trip on a plane sounded perfect.
We had 2 weeks away with a 20 month old and a 3.5 year old. Here are some of our tips/recommendations:
1. Buy the 4 park pass - it was great, so cheap as we only had to pay for 2 adults and 1 child and it meant that we could go for 1/2 days and get the littlest home for a nap and still had time for a swim in the afternoon/beach visit. There was plenty to do with the little ones at each park for the 4 hours we were there each day, and amazingly they both loved most of the shows including the Dolphin show at Seaworld.
2. Take a packed lunch. I bought a thermal bag before we left for our trip and packed my Sinchies Reusable pouches. Once we arrived at our hotel i made lots of sandwiches which i placed in the freezer then each morning quickly packed our bag for the day. This saved so much money and the kids were still eating healthy wholesome food instead of hot chips and nuggets everyday.
3. Turtle Beach Resort - great accommodation but would probably better suit older children - say 3 plus. Ours were a little to small to take advantage of the splash zone and the slides but they still had plenty of fun. Mermaid beach was great too, lots of great little restaurants, close to the beach and Pacific Fair.
4. Robina Town Centre - worth heading out there for dinner, lots of restaurants to choose from, cinema and play areas.
5. Tambourine Mountain - what a lovely place to explore, we went up and visited the glow worm caves and even had a little wine tasting + lunch. Only about 1 hour from the Gold Coast.
Was a great trip and we all had a ball... we hope some of our tips will help you out when choosing where to go for your next holiday!

Teething signs and symptoms
Symptoms that indicate your baby may be teething include:
- Baby sucking on teether
- red swollen gums
- flushed cheeks
- irritability or restlessness
- a slight fever
- pulling the ear on the same side as the erupting tooth
- sucking fingers and fists.
Mild teething problems may be eased by the baby chewing on hard objects such as chilled teething toys or sugar free rusks.
Alternatively you can give your baby a dummy or wet flannel to bite on (place the flannel in the freezer for a little while so that it stays cooler, longer. It may also help to rub your child’s gums with a clean finger or the back of a cold spoon.
See your dentist or doctor before using any pain reliever or oral gel containing anaesthetic, or if problems persist.

Bibs and teethers go hand in hand... baby teethes and drools and the bib helps keep bub dry and clean. So why not be stylish during this awful and uncomfortable stage of your teething life... AND...Pikanini Bibs are made here in Australia hence another reason why we love them!
We hope you love them too...
I am always trying to find recipes that my babies will eat (now 1 and 3 years). Everyday is a struggle, so i thought why not share some tried and tested recipes here, to make Bubba Chew customers lives just that little bit easier.
This recipe is from a USA site, but I have amended slightly, see below:
Apple Pork Loaf
- 500 grams pork mince (or chicken/turkey)
- 1 whole egg or 2 egg yolks, beaten
- 1/2 cup pureed carrots
- 1/4 cup pureed apples
- 1/4 cup unprocessed oat bran
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- pinch of basil
- pinch of garlic powder
Step 1: Place pork mince in a large mixing bowl.
Step 2: Add the egg/yolk, carrots, apples, spices, bread crumbs and bran.
Step 3: Mix well – If this mixture appears too dry, add more carrots or apples. If this mixture appears too wet, add more bran and/or bread crumbs
Step 4: Place mix into a lightly oiled (olive oil) loaf pan and bake at 180c for approx. 45 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean. **You may wish to cover with foil to prevent the top from burning
Step 5: When finished baking and cooled, remove loaf from pan and slice as you would for bread. Break into small bits for finger feeding or mash or chop gently

Bubba Chew is very please to now be one of the carefully selected Australian stockists of the fantastic world recognised brand, Cheeky Chompers.
Cheeky Chompers was started in the UK by mumpreneurs just like us! Amy and Julie started the business while on maternity leave with their first children. The Neckerchew was born after lots of catch-ups with friends – where they witnessed countless dropped, dirty and lost teethers. Not to mention a gaggle of dribbling babies! Sometimes the simplest ideas really are the best: if the teether won’t stay put, why not attach it to the baby? Over nine months of long nights we put that little thought into action. They designed their bibs, sourced the best fabrics and materials, tested everything for safety and quality and after all that, Neckerchew finally hit the shelves in 2013.
Babies love the Cheeky Chomper products but don’t just take our word for it — check out lastest reviews and customer feedback...

Our latest range of beauitful peaches, gold and bronze necklaces and bangles have arrived! Be sure to check out our new arrivals page to see them all! x
The new Hippos teethers have arrived, we are currently naming them, and our friends at Bubba Bags have come up with Gloria for the magenta Hippo... The green hippo is being named over at our facebook page now - the winners receive a free hippo teether for their little ones.
Why purchase a hippo teether:
- They are quite large in size making them hard to loose in your nappy bag when out and about - and their is plenty for bub to chew on
- Features a tactile surface
- Comes with a pram strap - this means you are not constantly having to stop and pick up the teether off the ground while out and about
- They are very cute
- The hippo teether along with a necklace make the perfect mum and bub gift!
Don't forget to use the code: friends at checkout to receive a 10% discount and as always we offer free worldwide shipping!
Yours in teething
